John Wood's mother, Catherine Rumsey, was widowed in 1721. John was named in the Cecil County, Maryland Last Will and Testament of his father, Robert Wood.[3] Here is a scan of that document, courtesy of the Maryland State Archives and the Family History Library:

In 1737, John Wood was married at Saint Stephen's Parish, Cecil County, Maryland, to Francis Flintham, who is thought to be the daughter of John Flintham.[4] Here is a screenshot of the church Marriage Register, dated December 20, 1737, from the Maryland State Archives:

It is unclear whether John Wood was a member of the Quaker church. However, John Wood appears on many early land transactions in Orange County, North Carolina.
