Ellen Abson was born in La Prairie, Canada East in 1860. She was the daughter of John Abson and Susan Sharpley.

She married Donald Smith in Ottawa in 1890.

Ellen Smith passed away in Ottawa in 1928.

Many friends and relatives were present at the funeral of the late Mrs. Donald Smith, highly esteemed and widely respected resident of East Tempton, which was held yesterday afternoon from the residence of her son,Robert M. Smith, 184 Cambridge street, Ottawa, to the United church of East Templeton, where a service was conducted. Among the chief mourner, besides her husband, were one daughter, Mrs William Toll, of East Templeton. and one son. Robert M. Smith. Many floral tributes were received by member of the family, showing the high esteem In which the late Mrs. Smith was held.^[1]
