Mary Jane Adair was born in September 1873 in Sequoyah District, Cherokee Nation, Her parents were Rufus Adair and Sabina Buffington, both Cherokee. [1] Mary Jane's parents both died in 1881. She married Joseph Lemaster, also Cherokee, in 1893. They were the parents of Frederick, [2] Leo, [3] Unnamed Infant, Owen, John [4] and Imogene. [5] The family continued to live in Afton, Oklahoma. [6] [7] In 1950 Mary and Joseph were living with their son, Owen, in Cookson, OK. [8]

Mary was enrolled by the Dawes Commission as a Cherokee by Blood and was approved for a share of the Eastern Cherokee (Guion Miller) payment. [9]

Mary died on 9 December 1950 and was buried at the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Delaware County, OK. [10]
