He was working as a Lutheran Minister.[6] He was still living there in 1860, when he was working as both a minister and a farmer.[7]

In 1863 he moved to Findlay, Hancock County, Ohio, where he would live for the remainder of his life.[1] At the time of the 1870 Census, he was living next door to his son, Newton, in Findlay. He was working as a minister for the Church of God.[8]
