James Preston Adcock Sr was born in Appalachia, in Tennessee.

James Preston Adcock was born on July 27, 1881 in DeKalb, Tennessee, United States, son of James Thomas Adcock (1856–1929) and Mary Catherine Luna (1858–1908).

James married Rachel Evaline Jane Goodwin (born on November 18, 1886 in Warren, Tennessee; daughter of Joseph D. Goodwin and Samantha Tennesee (Reeder) Goodwin).[1]

Press was in a military record in 1917-1918 in Madison, Alabama, United States.[4]

In the 1940 census Press (age 58) was the married head of household in Election Precinct 7 Lincoln, Madison, Alabama, United States.[7] wife Jennie Adcock 46, Press Adcock 58, son James Adcock 16, son Robert Adcock 9.

James died on November 13, 1940 in Huntsville, Madison, Alabama, United States, aged 59. He was buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville, Alabama.[8][9]
