- He married Josephine E. "Josie" Stimple (1853 – 1936). They were the parents of 12 children; known names Lewis, Frank, Thomas, Eva, Lindsey, Russell, Carrie, Jennie, Bertha and Earl. 9 of who survived him young Thomas had passed 2 years prior.
- He was a bricklayer by occupation and was on the way to a work site when after waiting for one train to pass failed to hear the second one coming and his vehicle with him inside was struck.
