Biography

John Adkins was baptized at Sandy, Bedfordshire, England on 7th April 1639, his parents being named as Thomas and Agnes Adkins.^{[1] [2]}

On May 29th, 1665, John entered into a marriage settlement for £60 with William Bromsall for his daughter Elizabeth. John was listed as John Adkyns of Girtford, mason and his father is shown as Thomas. ^[3]

John married Elizabeth Bromsall at Sandy on 4th June 1665.^[2][4] They had 2 sons and 5 daughters whose baptisms are recorded in the Sandy Parish Records:

John Adkins was buried at Sandy on 17 Dec 1692. ^[6]

Research Notes

There is another John and Elizabeth Adkins that started having children in 1651. A will proving the children above has not been found but would be ideal. The children are assumed because they start two years after the marriage. The John married in 1651 is assumed to be the same one that made a will on 28 Nov 1656. There may be some confusion since that John is also shown "of Girtford, mason". His will was proved 20 March 1660. He is most likely the same John that was buried in Sandy 23 Oct 1659. ^[10] Were they both masons of Girtford? Since this John married in 1665, he could not be the same John that had died a few years earlier.
