Biography

Francis George was born in Queenstown; Cape Colony, on 16 March 1886; he was the son of William Ford Aitchison and Alice Maud (Knight) Aitchison.

His biography was published in the Natal Who's Who as Follows:^[1][2]

AITCHISON, Francis George. Proprietor, Frank's Garage, Durban. Born, Queenstown, S.A., March 16, 1886. Son of William Ford Aitchison, of Capetown, and grandson of G. W. Aitchison, late Postmaster General at Cape. Educated, S.A. College, Capetown. Married 4th Nov., 1916, Agnes, second daughter of G.McCallum, of Hatherley, Pretoria. One daughter. Has been connected with motor business for 20 years. Lecturer on motor engineering, Natal Technical College. War service from Sept., 1914 to May, 1918, with 1st I.L.H. in Rebellion and South-West Africa, and as Lieutenant in Mechanical Transport Corps, in East Africa. Was volunteer in Kaffrarian Rifles and Witwatersrand Rifles. Hobbies, fishing and Motor-Boating. Address: corner Smith and Aliwal Streets, Durban.

He was 30 years old when he married 20 year old Agnes McCullum in the St Michael's and All Angel's Church in Sunnyside Pretoria on 4 November 1916. ^[3]

Francis was 76 years old, the retired manager of a Motor Firm, when he passed away in the Mitchell Park Nursing Home in Durban, Natal, on 22 December 1922.^[4][5][6]
