It has been proposed: two Anna Aldermans. One b. 1801. the other b. 1820. One called Hanna. But there is no support for two diff Annas.
Quote: "Anna (by some spoken of as Hannah)"[1]. In records of her 2nd marriage, she was often referred to as Hannah[2].
NOTE: Unless other sources attached to a fact, all details of Anna's life are from "Aldermans in America", sourced above.
She was born in New York
She married 1st a Methodist minister, Rev John Stewart (1798-1820) . Not sure of the date. Aldermans list the marriage, but not the date.
- Raft Migration: She and husband John traveled down the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers on a giant raft with the family to the newly-opened territory of Ohio in 1810.
- home-built raft to house fam of 16: Elisha (68) & Thankful, Job Phillips & w Mary Alderman (33), John Stewart & w Ann Alderman (30), James Ward Smith & w Esther Alderman (28), Elisha Jr (27) & w Maria Vadermark, Rachel (25), Elijah (22), Hosea (19), Elihu (18), Lucy (14) & Anna (9)
1821 in Ohio, Anna m. 2nd Samuel Howard (1793-1838). Several biographical entries in Bernice Graham: "Descendants of Samuel Smith," mention Samuel Howard and his wife "Hanna". Then other references list her as Ann or Anna.[2] Their first five children were born in Ohio, probably Athens County (where Anna's family from New York had settled).
1840 census residence Fulton, Illinois: Anna Howard found in the her Fulton household [4] with two teen boys and a teen girl living w Anna as head of household.
1860 census residence Fulton Illinois: [8] reporting widowed mom, Anna Howard (60) kids: Lucy Howard (17) * it is very odd that Anna, widow of 3rd hubby, Geo Dodge, would report her married name w her 2nd husband. And that Lucy woud change her birth name fom Dodge to Howard. Note that dau Lucy's death documentation clearly list her daddy as Dodge, not Howard[9].
1870 census residence, Fulton, Illinois: [10], widowed mom, Anna Howard (63) & Lucy Howard (27) * Anne and Lucy must have had issues w George Dodge?
9 Sept 1879 - Anna died at Harrison, Illinois of pneumonia[11] and is buried in the Marietta Cemetery[12] in Harrison, Fulton, Illinois.
