Biography

Henry was born in 1888 on the family farm in Barton Township in Worth County, Iowa near Carpenter. He was the third born child of Lars Leonard Allanson and Torborg Eide. He grew up in the Carpenter area and studied at Cedar Valley Seminary (Osage, IA) and continued college studies, finishing with a degree in agriculture at Cornell University. During his studies, he married Rose Hillidge in 1914 in Springfield, Illinois. They had one son together. After finishing college, Henry pursued a career in the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. rising to become a Division Chief there. The family lived for many years in Takoma Park, Maryland. His wife died in 1967, and Henry passed away in 1971. They are buried together in Christ Church Cemetery in Port Republic, MD.
