Baptized: 12 Apr 1807, Roche Parish, Cornwall. Emigrated to Australia, 'Duchess of Northumberland' 1847.

Joseph was born about 1801. He arrived in Souh Australia in 1847 aboard the Duchess Of Northumberland. Resided in Willunga. ^[1]

The South Australia Register, 11 June 1861, page 3, describes the jury trial of a lawsuit brought by John Welshford, his father-in-law, against Joseph Allen for debauchery & seduction of Eliza Welshford, 15 years of age, younger sister of his wife, Hannah. The seduction resulted in a pregnancy, birth, and death of a child. The jury found for the plaintiff and assessed damages of 100 pounds. Joseph never paid the award, and disappeared from the area, which is why the date and place of his death is not known to the family.
