Mary was born about 1845. She was the daughter of Alick Allen and Betty Allen nee Garner or Gardner. [1]

After being sponsored as Mary Allen by brother William in 1863 her initial emigration plans are put on hold by her marriage. His next deposit records him sponsoring George and Mary MacNeal in Sept 1865. [4] The 'McNeal' family arrived in Sydney on 16 Feb 1867 • Australia after a 99 day voyage aboard "Burlington" They are listed as
