Biography

Descendant of William Hickok, immigrant ancestor of Farmington, Colony of Connecticut.

Harry Franklin Allen, the son^[1][2][3][4] of Frank M. Allen and Lucy C. Hickok, was born on 11 November 1897 in Augusta, Hancock Co., Illinois.^{[5][3][1][4][6]}

In 1900, less than 2 years after his birth, his parents and he had moved from Augusta to Chili, also in Hancock Co., Illinois.^[3]

By 1910, Harry and his parents were back in Augusta, with Harry's two siblings, Eva and Cecil F.^[7]

On 9 January 1924 Harry Franklin married Jessie Virginia McQueen in Long Beach, Los Angeles Co., California. One of the witnesses was Eva M. Allen.^[8]

The 1930 U.S. Census showed Harry Allen working as a floor sander, married to Virginia, with three children, Herbert, Dorothy, and Patricia, living in Long Beach.^[9]

On 14 February 1942 he registered for the U.S. draft. He described himself as 5' 8 1/2" tall, weighing 220 lbs., and having blue eyes, brown hair, ruddy complexion, and a crippled left hand. At that time he was unemployed, living at 3577 Delbergia [?] St., San Diego, California.^[5]

Harry was a carpenter.^[6]

He came to National City, San Diego Co., California about 1946, twelve years before he died. He worked on the new Assembly of God Church in that city.^[6]

Harry was 60 years ago when he died on 19 July 1958 at his home at 2725 C Avenue, National City.^[2][6]

Funeral services were planned for 18 July 1958.^[6]

Burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery.^[6]
