Biography

Archelaus was born circa 1733.1

Archelaus married Sarah [--?--] Anderson circa 1769 in Murrayfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, (now Chester, Hampden, MA), Copeland's History of Murrayfield, p.153, and Chester VR, p.119, list a marriage intention in 1791 between William Smith and Sally Anderson who may have been another daughter of Archelaus and Sarah Anderson. Chester VR also lists a marriage intention between Selah Anderson of Chesterfield and John Clark in 1782. Selah is probably unrelated.. List of marriage intentions in Copeland's History of Murrayfield includes an intention in 1782 between John Clark and Sela Anderson of Chesterfield, possibly the home of the Anderson's.2 He died of smallpox on on 23 February 1782 at Murrayfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts, (now Chester, Hampden, MA). Chester VR, citing Littleville Cemetery grave records, says Archelaus died in his 48th year in West Point "in the service of his country"..3 He was buried at Section A of the Eastman at Cemetery on Bromley Road at Murrayfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts, (now Chester, Hampden, MA).4
