Biography

William Anderson son of Richard Anderson and his wife, Mary Eggleston was baptised at All Saints, Kilham on 2 February 1819. ^[1] His father was a local hero, having fought at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Mary Anderson died in 1833 and Richard in 1835 and, like so many of his kin, William went to sea.

At the 1841 Census William, a mariner like his father, was living with his aunt Hannah and her husband Richard Towse ^[2]

On 9 March 1843 he married, at All Saints, Elizabeth Williams daughter of the miller, John Williams and his wife, Elizabeth Nicholson. ^[3] Elizabeth bore him a son, William, early in 1844 but died in December that year.

By 1851 he was living in Driffield with his son and his young sister-in-law, Agnes Williams. ^[4] It seems as though he disliked living without family about him for in 1861 his nephew, Edward Anderson, was living with him. ^[5] His own son, William, has not been located.

William passed away in 1865 ^[6] dying on 29th March. ^[7]
