Biography

Ireland Native
Agnes (Hamilton) Gilmore was born in Ireland.
Agnes whose maiden name is sometimes given as Anderson was born, perhaps as early as 1692, in Londonderry County, Ireland. She is sometimes said to have been the daughter of Robert (1665-1697) and Elizabeth Leslie (b1657) Hamilton.
She married John Gilmore on 11 January 1723 in Londonderry and they migrated to Pennsylvania, probably before 1730. About a decade later they moved south to Augusta County, Virginia, and in 1745 they bought 500 acres of land in what is now Rockbridge County, Virginia.
On 19 October 1759 John and Agnes were both killed in the Kerrs Creek Massacre about seven miles northwest of Lexington in present-day Rockbridge County..
