Biography

The son of Irish immigrants Samuel Anderson and Hannah (Curry) Anderson, John was born in Sparta Township, New York[citation needed] in 1872. He moved with his family to Michigan, settling in Macon Township, in Lenawee County.[1] In 1900, John lived in Brooklyn Township, Michigan, boarding with the Cruse family while he worked as a sawyer.[2]

John married Maude (Cruse) Anderson, age 25, the daughter his hosts, Michael Cruse and Alice Gros, marrying in Hillsdale County, Michigan on July 28, 1900[3]

Widowed in 1902. John remarried in 1904, marrying Lucy (Fowler) Anderson, the daughter of Robert Buchanan Fowler and Frances Fredonia George, marrying in Chicago, Illinois on January 11, 1904[4] and having four children together:

  1. Roy B. Anderson (1905-1924)
  2. John Francis Anderson (1909-1938)
  3. Delmar Samuel Anderson (1914-1975)
  4. Ethel Ora (Anderson) Larson (1917-1934)

They made their home in Broughton Township, Illinois,[5] where John worked as a farm laborer.

Widowed a second time, in 1919, John returned to Michigan, marrying Della (Hendershot) Anderson, the daughter of Martin Van Buren Hendershot and Catherine Coller, marrying Blissfield Township, Michigan on July 4, 1921.[6] Della had been married previously to Gustine Sisson. The couple divorced on November 1, 1929.[7]

In 1930, John lived with two of his sons, residing in Tecumseh Township, Michigan working at odd jobs.[8] By 1940, no longer able to work, John boarded in Tecumseh Township.[9]

John Anderson passed away in Tecumseh Township, Michigan[10] at the age of 74[11]
