William Andrew Dies at Son's Home
William Andrew, 84. oldest native Rockfordite, died Sunday morning at 11:30 o'clock at the home of his son, Archie G. Andrew, Harlem Hill road, of infirmities of age.
Mr. Andrew about one year ago fell and fractured several ribs. While in no serious condition following the accident, nevertheless his age was against any rapid recovery, and he gradually failed in health and strength.
Born Here in 1844.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Andrew, came here from Scotland in 1842. Mr. Andrew was born on a farm on what is known now as the Kilburn business district, January 4, 1944.
In 1845 his parents bought land from the government in Guilford Township, where Mr. Andrews resided for almost 60 years. Upon the death of his parents, he bought the farm and operated it.
Mr. Andrew was the youngest of 13 children, all of whom have preceded him in death. He married Miss Mary Gillespie, of Winnipeg, Canada, who died in 1905.
Retired in 1908.
He retired in 1908, coming to Rockford and making his home on Olive street for many years. Recently he had made his home with his son, Archie, in Harlem Hill road.
Mr. Andrew is survived by three sons, Archie and David, Rockford, and William of Van Nuys, Calif., and five grandchildren. [5]
