Biography

Children: Arent (1681, married Alcke Jans and Harmke Jans), Trijncke (July 29 1688, married Albert Broers, Steffen Hindriks & Harm Alberts), Harm (1690), Nanne (1695, married Jantien Hindricks), Jan (March 8 1696, married Talleghien Jans), Jarcko (Jan 30 1701), Hans (Nov 4 1703), all at Onstwedder Hofte. Moved to Veele: most of the children lived and died there.

While most records call him Hindrik ter Hofte, he would only have held onto this last name as long as he lived in Hofte. Last names often went with the land and house rather than with the family.

I could find no marriage record for Hindrik and Wendelke. They must have been married around 1679, just before the marriage records in Onstwedde begin. The membership records of the Onstwedde Reformed church are also not available online yet, so we can't verify anything through them. Wendelke is most likely mentioned in the Westerwolder records, but not in baptism records. However, Hindrik is listed in some marriage contracts which connect him to the Thedingh family: Marriage of Geertien Harmens, daughter of Harmen Geerdes; both Harmen Thedingh and Henderick Hoftingh (also known as Hijnderck Arcks) listed on her side of the family. He is also listed as Hendrick Aarens on the groom's side when Wendelke's brother Jarco Harms Thedingh married Sibilla Wubbes Bruijningh in 1689 and when her sister Rixt married in 1704.

Hindrik and Wendelke made profession of faith at the church in Vlagtwedde on June 11 1706. He probably stopped going by the last name of ter Hofte at this time. Perhaps he had relatives in Veele (his grand uncle, if my guesses are even close to correct) that helped establish him there?

On December 2 1682 Hindrick paid back rent in Onstwedde. He received an inheritance on August 30 1693 in Onstwedde. He received the remainder of it on September 2 1693. He made payment on another debt on Septmeber 29 1698 in Onstwedde, and land in Onstwedde in 1704. He terminated this contract on January 8, 1709.^[1]
