George Watson was born in 3rd November 1881 in Coonamble, Victoria. With two brothers Jim & John, he found work in the countryside at a very early age. George was a Jackeroo on 'Boonoke, Conargo NSW and later engaged in farming and wheat growing.

Jim worked in mines and developed lung disease of many miners, then called miners’ tuberculosis (later classed as silicosis) and died in 1915.

John lived in Deniliquin until his death and was a very well known identity there, very active in community affairs. One of his sons, Adam Alexander (called Bill), later became MP for Riverina, Country Party (replaced by Mr Grassby for Labour at the next election in 1970, which was a turning point in Australia's development). Bill’s elder brother, Stewart returned safely from France (AIF ABROAD), but was killed while riding in the Picnic Races at Deniliquin in 1922.

George's brother Robert worked in the office of Edwards & Co, tea merchants, in Melbourne.

George worked for some years in Gippsland Victoria, on farms owned by Mr R.C. Edwards of Edwards and Co. Melbourne.

Later he managed a property at Henty, NSW for Mr T.D. Edwards and R.T. Armstrong, until it was sold in 1917 after which he moved to Sydney and joined the staff of Edwards & Co, Tea Merchants were he remained until his retirement.
