Frank died under suspicious circumstances in 1911.[8]
CALLS SPOUSES’ DEATH SUSPICIOUS
Frank E. Atkinson, 48 years old, a salesman for the N.K. Fairbank Company, died at the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital under mysterious circumstances early today and the police and coroner have started an investigation. His father, William Atkinson is said to be a well to do farmer in Rockford.
Mrs. Maud Atkinson, the decedent’s widow told police her husband left home Sunday morning without saying where he was going or when he would return. About 1:30 Sunday afternoon she said several unidentified men carried her husband into his home and laid him down on a bed. She said she did not know if he was brought by automobile or carriage and that she was so frightened over the affair she did not think to ask the names of the men who took the victim home. She declared she did not remember whether there were three or four men. All of them were well dressed she asserted.
Detectives learned that Atkinson was taken home from the saloon of Thomas Knight at Wells and Eugene Streets. Robert Fulton, the bartender said Atkinson took two drinks and lost consciousness. He did not know the names of the men who took him home.
