Biography

Hazel was born in Hamburg, Arkansas, on 25 September 1899.^[1][2] She was the daughter of Albert Austin and Victoria Gibbs.^[1] Hazel's mother died when she was very young, and Hazel was living with various relatives in 1910 and 1920.^[3][4] Hazel worked as a typist for the K-T-M Railroad, where she presumably met her future husband Roy S. Hulse, a clerk there.^[5] (Hazel's brother Ernest also worked for the railroad.) Hazel and Roy were married about 1922 (see note below). Hazel died in Dallas, Texas, on 3 April 1927, of complications from the birth of her daughter Wanda.^[2] She is buried in Grove Hill Memorial Park.^[6]

• Name transcribed "Dustin" from 1900 Census.
• Death certificate gives incorrect birth year of 1901. FamilySearch profile has 1900, with a note from a contributor claiming to have Hazel's birth certificate. The 1900 Census (taken in July) is clear, however, that Hazel was born in September 1899 and was 10 months old at the time. Heritage-577 15:47, 22 November 2019 (UTC)

• FamilySearch profile gives an unsourced wedding date of 22 August 1922. Hazel appears with Roy in the 1924 Dallas directory, but as Hazel Austin in the 1922 directory.
