Biography

National Flag of Wales
Edward Awbrey was born in Wales.
This profile is part of the Awbrey Name Study.

Sir Edward, oldest son of Sir William Awbrey, was first married to a Miss Hulstone. He annulled the marriage. It is possible they had a son.

2nd he married his cousin Barbara Lloyd and had more children which are not identified. His demise came during a night in 1656 when his former in-laws (Hulstones) found him drunk and asleep in bed and smothered him.

It seems his character was not much different from that of his father.

He had at least one legitimate heir, William, who inherited Buckingham Place in Brecon. William sold Buckingham Place to William Morgan. This William was married to Elizabeth Harries of Gloucester

It has not been possible to corroborate the original source for his knighthood. The CADW can no longer find any reference for him. Nor have I found any other list of knights that include him.

It is likely he was knighted by King James I as he had knighted his father and his father's brothers in appreciation for Dr. William Aubrey's (their father) efforts to save King James mother, Mary Queen of Scots.

I am fairly certain the Sir Edward in your reference is Awbrey-10 son of Dr. William Aubrey-11.

Edward Awbrey-108 is the son of Sir Edward Awbrey-10. Edward Awbrey-111 is the son of Sir William Awbrey-9.
