Biography

William was born about 1792, possibly in Pennsylvania because four of his six siblings were born there.. William Azbell, or Asbell, was the son of James Asbell, Jr. (who was the son of James Asbell, Sr. and Mary Whitnum) and Tamer (Maiden Name Unknown).

Children of JAMES JR. and TAMER are:
i. MARGARET D.3 ASBELL.
ii. SAMUEL ASBELL, b. Bet. 1780 - 1790, PA. m. Sarah Birdsell.
iii. JOHN ASBELL I, b. 1785, PA. 1m. Rachel Bennet, 2m. Massy Worth.
iv. DAVID ASBELL, b. Bet. 1790 - 1800, ?; m. JANE LIKES, 20 Apr 1820, Belmont County Ohio; b. Bet. 1800 - 1804.
v. WILLIAM ASBELL SR., b. Abt. 1792, Virginia/?; m. Sarah Sowders. d. 04 Sep 1852, Pleasant Twp., Fulton Co. Illinois.
vi. JANE ASBELL, b. Abt. 1794. m. Jacob Van Fossen.[1]

William was married to Sarah Southers about 1812.

Residence in 1820 was in Kirkwood Township, Belmont, Ohio.[2]

Residence in 1830 was in Flushing Township, Belmont, Ohio.[3]

Residence in 1840 was in Flushing Township, Belmont, Ohio.[4]

Residence in 1850 was in Pleasant Township, Fulton, Illinois.[5] William 60 was a farm and his farm was valued at $800. His wife, Sarah 32 [52 if born 1798] was at home with their children; Elizabeth 18, Harrison 16, Juliann13 and Maria 11, their four youngest.

He passed away in 1852. His burial was in the Howard Cemetery located at Ipava in Fulton county in Illinois.[6][7]

Note that FamilySearch and Find-a-Grave have a photo of William Asbell, but he died in 1852, which makes it doubtful he would have been photographed. This is the same photo identified as his nephew, William Asbell (1826-1895).
