Biography

Captain Henry Baker served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: July 29, 1862

Henry Baker was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, Post 1, Rockford, Illinois.

Henry was born in 1825 in Vermont. He was the son of Ira Baker and Mira Noble. [1]

His family moved to Rockford Illinois in 1838.

He was an attorney in Rockford in 1860. [2]

He married Mary Ann Hall in 1861. [3]

In July 1862 he enlisted in Company K, 74th Regiment, Illinois Infantry as a First Lieutenant. He was promoted to Captain in April 1863. He resigned October that year. [4]

After the war he continued his law practice in Rockford as well as being a justice of the peace and working in real estate. [5][6]

He was a member of the Rockford G.A.R., President of the school board, and superintendent of the Emanuel Episcopal Sunday School.

In 1889 they moved to Sausalito, California.

Henry passed away in 1905.[7][8]
