Biography

Edward served as Mayor of Rockford, Illinois 1866–1867 and 1868–1869

Edward was born in 1828 in Vermont. He was the son of Ira Baker and Mira Noble.^[1]

His family came to Rockford, Illinois in 1838. ^[2]

Edward studied at Knox College and Illinois College at Jacksonville. He was admitted to the bar.

In 1850 he was living in Rockford with Andrus Brown and working as a clerk. ^[3]

He married Lucy Marsh in 1852. ^[4]

They lived in Rockford where he was an attorney. He was the Secretary of the Rockford and Kenosha Railroad. ^[5][6][7]

In 1866 he was elected mayor of Rockford. He served one year and was elected again in 1868. ^[8]

Edward passed away in 1897. The circuit court which was in session adjourned in his honor. ^[9][10][11]
