Patience was born to Thankful (Godfrey) and Augustus Ballard on 24 Nov 1798[1] in Hallowell, Kennebec, Maine, which was thought of as Massachusetts at that time.
Patience lost her husband shortly, it has been believed, after 21 May 1837, the day his will was written. This will clearly lays out that Thomas and Patience had three daughters, with no mention of lost children or sons, living or dead. All three daughters were under the age of 21, as their bequests would not be paid until they reached that age.
Thomas Atkins will:[2] This will does not show a probate date. It was drawn on 21 May 1837, being of of sound mind but weak of body, suggesting that Mr, Atkins felt his time was drawing nigh. However, scanning a will entered before and another entered after his will, one notes that dates in the 1850s and 1860s were mentioned, suggesting that he recovered what ailed him in 1837, and died later -- 1861, according to FindAGrave Maine Tombstone Inscriptions.[3] In any case, he appeared in the 1860 census[4] living with his wife Patience and their daughter Eliza B.
Patience died on 31 Jul 1872[5] and was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner, Kennebec, Maine.[3]
