When William L Ballinger was born in 1773 in Virginia, his father, Henry Ballenger (1749-1785) was 24 and his mother, Mary Harding (1750-?) was 23. He married Charity Wade in 1797 in his hometown. They had four children during their marriage.
In the 1850 Census, William is living with an older female (Charity?) in Rockcastle County, KY.[2] in 1850, he's listed as being 77 and Charity is listed as being 73. Both were born in Virginia. [3] He works as a laborer. The next door neighbor is Joseph and Belinda Ballenger.
He died in 1853 in Rockcastle, Kentucky, having lived a long life of 77 years.

According to the non-population census schedule of 1870 in Rockcastle Kentucky, there were these Ballengers living there:
Richmond Ballenger age 67 (His father was Joseph.)
