James was born in 1832, the son of Andrew Bain and Temperence Phillips. He can be found in the 1850 Rusk county census, living with his sister, Amanda Bane Buchanan.[1] James married Eliza Jane Gage, on October 19, 1854 in Rusk County. [2]Eliza was a former citizen of the Cherokee Nation.[3] James and Eliza would have ten known children: Andrew David Bane, John G. Bane, Georgia A. Bane, James Henry Bane, Samuel Monroe Bane, Wilson Winright Bane, Charles C. Bane, Mary Ella Bane[4], Lucy Idella Bane, and finally, Archie Pinky Bane[5]. [6] [7]Some trees state that they had they two other children that died in infancy, Leander F. Bane born 1871 died 1871 and Little Baby Bane 1876-1877. Eliza passed away shortly after the birth of her son Archie. In her probate records,[8] James states that Archie is an infant. He married America M. Hart April 3, 1879 in Rusk County.[9] They had no children.[10][11] During the Civil War, on May 10, 1862, James enlisted as a private in Captain Harvey A. Wallace's, Company H, 19th Regiment, Texas Infantry[12] On March 14, 1864 he was severely wounded and taken prisoner at the Battle of Fort De Russy.[13] James passed away October 16, 1884,in Rusk County, Tx, and his place of burial is unknown. His sister, Amanda was the administrator of his estate.[14]
