This profile is part of the Boisdore Name Study.
Henriette (Barbeau) Scranton has French origins.

Henriette Myshonsine Scranton (Barbeau dite Boisdore)

Dit Boisdore is her ancestral French dit name. It identifies or distinguishes something about the person or family. Boisdore was also spelled Bois Dor, or Bois Dore. This dit name was carried from France to Nouvelle France and French Louisanne by her French Barbeau family. It refers to a master craftsman gold guilder or gold wood gilding. It remains a modern gold gilding definition. Dit Boisdore may have also referred to a French seigneury ( wood producing plantation) named Boisdore, Bois-Barbeau or Bois-Barbot in France. Eventually dit use was dropped as families became nationalized in North America and discontinued in France after the French Revolution.

I believe ,that research based on her family's oral history, that Myshonsine is a middle name created by her parents possibly using , Winnebago , (Ho-Chunk), English and French languages combined. "My Sun Shine." It is not literal Winnebago, English or French word. The family's verbal history states that she was born on the Winnebago Indian Nation river in 1834 while her father and mother were trading with the Winnebago Indians. Her birth in November, would be at the time that area is already into the early winter season. This is traditionally the time when French Voyageurs would "winter camp" to fur trade. Her birth would have been a rejoicing for her parents and the Winnebago nation. The river she was born on would later be named Baraboo River by subsequent USA Government Surveyors and formalized in 1852.

An interesting question is if her sister Flavia about two years of age at the time was also in attendance with her father and mother when "Myshonsine" was born.

Research suggests that there were several generations of French Barbeau (dit Boisdore) Voyageurs who traded on the river and in the region from as early as circa 1703 to 1834. Baraboo-1 19:03, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

MRS. SCRANTON IS DEAD

Was Born at Baraboo, Wis. in 1834

Note: Baraboo Wisconsin was not a place in 1834. In 1834 the region was still a part of the Winnebago nation. Baraboo Wisconsin became a place 1852. The Birth is referencing the River Region and Winnebago,(Ho-Chunk) Indian Nation Villages where the Baraboo City and Baraboo River would later be established. Her father Pierre Barbeau and her mother were probably wintering on the river among the Winnebago as a fur trader when "Myshonsine" was born. Baraboo-1 17:25, 26 October 2016 (EDT)
