Biography

Mary Barber was born on 13 Dec 1727, or on 4 Feb 1729, according to unnamed sources. She was baptized, however, at the First Parish Church in Gloucester, Province of Massachusetts Bay, on 26 Oct 1729.[1] Her parents were Daniel Barber and Anna Baker.

Mary married Benjamin Tarr, Jr. on 22 Dec 1748, at Gloucester.[2]

Research Notes

Birth

  • Birth information in original profile Barber-2045: 4 Feb 1729, Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts
  • Birth information in original profile Barber-2046: 13 Dec 1727, Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts, USA
  • The baptismal information found in the collected records for Gloucester is for a "Mary Barber" but has only the father's name: Daniel. Because Mary's later children carried names from Anna Baker Barber's family, as well as the name "Daniel," it seems more than probable that this Mary is in fact the daughter of Anna and Daniel.

Death

  • Death information in original profile Barber-2045: 30 Dec 1816, Newmarket, Rockingham, New Hampshire, USA
  • Death information in original profile Barber-2046: 24 Aug 1810, Gloucester, Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts, USA

Note: the death date of 24 Aug 1810 in Gloucester belongs to a Mary Tarr, who died of "old age, Aug. 24, 1810, a. 94 y. CR1" [3] This cannot be Mary, daughter of Daniel, who was born sometime between 1727 and 1729, because 1810 - 94 = 1716.
