Odell was Annie McCullough's first child, born before she married Chesley Barber. Chesley is not Odell's biological father. This is proven by DNA evidence. A descendant of Odell's is a match with a descendant of Odell's sister Oneta, who is the daughter of Chesley. They do not share any matches on Chesley's side of the family and they have an impossibly low number of centimorgans for their relationship to be full cousins. It is therefore established that Odell's father was not Chesley, and also not someone closely related to Chesley.
Odell's earliest record (the 1910 Census) has her surname as Barber, but it is very likely that she had a different Last Name at Birth, because her mother did not marry Chesley until she was at least a year old.

Maternal relationship is confirmed by an AncestryDNA test match between Odell's private granddaughter and the private daughter of Odell's half-sister Annie Oneta Barber. Their MRCA is their grandmother/great-grandmother, Annie Leola McCullough. They share 115 cM across 9 segments. Half 1st cousin 1x removed probability: 26%.
