This enslaved ancestor's profile has a preliminary Last Name At Birth (LNAB) until a surname can be determined. Please see the US Black Heritage Naming Conventions for Slaves before merging or changing the LNAB.
Jane, daughter of Jane, was bequeathed by Nathaniel Barksdale to his son Peter Barksdale according to Nathaniel's will, signed 21 Jul 1789 in Halifax County, Virginia. Along with Jane, her mother Jane and sister Doll were included in the distribution to Peter. Furthermore, these "three are now in his possession."
Be careful with merging slaves. Since Nathaniel was sometimes giving away more than one person with the same name in the same document, it would be a mistake to merge these individuals.
Birthdate for those designated as children are set at before the date of the document, i.e., 15 Jul 1789
Birth location is assumed to be the location of the signing of the document, Halifax, Virginia
