William George Barlow was born in Whitchurch, Hampshire on 20 June 1889 [1]
Phyllis Crook married William George Barlow in West Hyde (near Rickmansworth) on 14 September 1915 (date and place as shown on certificate from FMP) [2]. Their fathers were recorded as Frederick Charles Barlow, a cowman and Joseph Crook. [3]
William enlisted into the British Army in London on 14 July 1916. His place of birth was confirmed as Whitchurch, and he showed his wife to be Phillis May, and his son as Ronald William Barlow, born St George Hanover Square on 7 October 1916. He was assigned to the Royal Army Service Corps in Woolwich, and was at one point a chauffeur. During his period of service he gained promotion to acting corporal. [4]
