John Barnes was a Virginian from Accomack County

John^[1] was born in 1857. He was the son of Alfred Barnes and Mary Johnson. He married Mary Emma Rayfield in 1884. He passed away in 1936.

John was born on 24 June 1857 at Accomack Co, VA.^[2]

He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.^[3]

He married Mary E. Rayfield, daughter of Major Rayfield IV and Elizabeth (-----), on 6 February 1884 at Mappsville, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John W. Barnes, a 25 year old waterman, the son of Alfred & Mary Barnes and she was shown as Mary E. Rayfield, age 22, daughter of Major & Eliz'th Rayfield. They were married by Montcalm Oldham..^[1]

John died on 29 December 1936 at age 79.^[2]

His body was interred at Modest Town Baptist Ch Cem, Acc Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as J.W. Barnes, buried next to Mary E. Barnes, 24 Jun 1857 - 29 Dec 1936..^[2]
