Machinist Mate Second Class Murl Barnes served in the United States Navy in World War II Service started: 21 Oct 1942 Unit(s): USS Orion; USS Andrew Doria II Service ended: service ended as 24 Nov 1945
Murl enlisted in the Navy on 21 Oct 1942.[10] By 30 Sep 1943, he was a Seaman 2nd Class stationed on the USS Orion in San Francisco, California.[11] Murl spent the next 11 months on the Orion[11][10][12][13][14][15]. By 30 Jun 1944, Murl was a Machinist's Mate Second Class.[14]
On 23 Aug 1944, he was transferred to the USS Andrew Doria II[16] and remained on this ship until 20 Jun 1945. [17][18][19][20][21][22]
US Census
In 1930, Murl lived in Fort Worth, Tarrant, Texas with his parents, brother, sister, step-brother and step-sister.<[3]
In 1950, Murl was a milling machenist at an aircraft factory. He lived in San Diego, San Diego, California with his wife, son and two daughters.[23]
