The Rev. Robert Leighton Barnett was baptized on 12 August 1836 in the parish church of Bromham, Wiltshire, England, the son of the Rev. Samuel Whitehorne Barnett, clerk in Holy Orders of the Church of England, and his wife, Elizabeth^[1].
