Biography
Mary Ann was born between 1833 and 1836[1][2][3]. She is the (step?)daughter of John Irish.
Mary, daughter of Isaac & Fanny, was born in or before 1836 and baptised on 31 July 1836 in Barton Stacey, Hampshire, England.[2]
She has a younger sister, Lucy
An 1841 England census notes a Mary Ann Barter (5 years old) and Lucy Barter (3 years old) living with the Doswell Family in Barton Stacey, Hampshire.[4] There is also a John Irish, 21 years old, living with others in Barton Stacey.[5] The 1841 census rounded down the age of adults to the nearest 5 years.
Mary Ann married John Devine in Caledon, 25 August 1851. Her age given as 18, which would put her date of birth around 1833. [1]
She died in Paarl on the 15th of Dec 1915 and was buried with her husband on the 17th of Dec 1915 at the Holy Trinity Church, church yard in Caledon, Cape Province, South Africa. [7][8]Her husband having passed way many years earlier on the 6th of Jan 1881 in Caledon.[9]
