Daniel joined Company H 12th MS Cavalry 8th June 1862 at Ripley, MS. He served this regiment to the end of the war. On his Application for Pension his answer to the question "where did your command surrender" was, "In NC, somewhere". P. A. MCBRYDE witnessed his application as did his cousin Jesse H. Bartlett[2]
