Joseph is reported as born September 25, 1677 at Yarmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts. He was a son of Nathaniel Bassett and his first wife, Dorcas Joyce.[1] Nathaniel Bassett was born at Bridgewater, a son of the immigrant, William Bassett.[1] Nathaniel settled first at Marshfield, but went on to Yarmouth by 1664, where he remained.[1]
1) Susannah Howes. He married 27 February 1706/7 at Yarmouth, as his 1st, to Susannah Howes; John Thacher, J.P. officiated.[3]
2) Thankful Hallett. He married on 3 December 1719 at Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA to Thankful Hallet; Peter Thatcher, JP officiated.[3][4]

His wife, Thankful, died August 12, 1736 at Yarmouth.[1]
