Biography

Mary Bate married John Henwood. In 28 March 1714 at Cardinham, witnesses to a document were Francis Dungey, John Henwood and Roger Bate. (got copy) Counterpart to lease Higher Cardeast, Cardinham 28 March 1715 [CRO ref AR/4/1649] In 1716 Roger Bate passes on a second lease to his daughter Mary. It appears that she may have been married to John Henwood, presumeably related to Daniell who married Roger’s daughter, Anne.. Counterpart of lease for 99 years on life of Mary, daughter of (2); to commence from the deaths of Thomas and Joyes Pengelly (now Joyes Barrow), son and daughter of Christopher Pengelly of Cardinham, yeoman, deceased, or other determination of (2)'s present estate (1) Richard Arundell of Lanherne, esquire (2) Roger Bate of Cardinham, yeoman, and John Henwood of Cardinham, tanner Property Three parts in four of the tenement called Wilton, now in the tenure of (2); tin and timber rights reserved.
