Is it absolutely certain the name is "HyJas?

Hy is a common abbreviation for Henry, and Jas is a common abbreviation for James (especially on documents). Add to that, there is a Henry James Bates born September Quarter (July to September) of 1879, in Walsall, mother's maiden name Machin (GRO Reference:1879 S Quarter in WALSALL Volume 06B Page 692); and none at all in 1880. There is also an Arthur William Bates, same mother's last name, born the September Quarter of 1881 (GRO Reference:1881 S Quarter in WALSALL Volume 06B Page 689)
