Biography

Orson was born in 1906 in Michigan. He was the son of Olin Bates and Flora Beals.

In 1910 he was living in Climax, Kalamazoo, Michigan.^[1] The household included Olin R Bates age 30 born in Ohio, wife Flora N Bates age 27 born in Michigan, son Orson G Bates age 3 born in Michigan, boarder Elsie Boehmer age 24 born in Michigan and boarder Mabel Aldrich age 21 born in Michigan. Olin was a doctor in private practice. Elsie was a public school teacher. Mabel was a milliner in a retail shop.

In 1920 he was living in Climax, Kalamazoo, Michigan.^[2] The household included Olin R Bates age 41 born in Michigan, wife Elsie J Bates age 33 born in Michigan, and son Orson G Bates age 13 born in Michigan. Olin was a physician.

In 1930 he was living in Climax, Kalamazoo, Michigan.^[3] The household included James R Carpenter age 50, wife Myrtle B Carpenter age 48, and boarder Gale O Bates age 23, all born in Michigan. James was a laborer at a food factory.

O Gale Bates and Eupha E Vosburg were married 1 Dec 1933 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.^[4] She was the daughter of Walter Vosburg and Florence McNutt. He was farming. She was a telephone operator.

In 1940 he was living in Charleston Township, Kalamazoo, Michigan.^[5] The household included Gale Bates age 33, wife Eupha Bates age 29, son Bruce R Bates age 5 and son John R Bates age 1, all born in Michigan. Gale was a farmer.

He died 13 Jul 1977 in Coldwater, Branch, Michigan.^[7][8]

He is buried in Prairie Home Cemetery, Climax, Kalamazoo County, Michigan.^[9]
