Biography

She was the daughter of Liesabeth (Broodbeck) and Hans Johannes "John" Becker.

She was born on 06 Jul 1788 and baptized on 09 Aug 1788 at St.Paul's Lutheran Church, West Camp, Ulster County, New York, USA with sponsors Catharina and Adam Lescher.

Maria Becker first married on 07 Jan 1808 in Walsingham Twp, Norfolk County, Ontario, Upper Canada to Matthias Steel (1781-1840).

Maria, wife of Matthias Steel relinquished her rights of dower on the easternmost part of Sovereign's Mill, Townsend.

By 1825 Maria had married secondly to Tobias Layman.
