Biography

Jane, Beilby the youngest daughter of cowkeeper George Beilby and his wife, Ann Briggs, was baptised at Sculcoates in Yorkshire on 7 April 1822. [1]

By 1841 her parents had moved to Nafferton some 30 miles north of Sculcoates. Jane was a servant in the household of George Wright, Vicar of Nafferton. In the household were William and Daniel Grimston, sons of Charles Grimston of Kilnwick Hall, presumably there for their education.[2]

Jane's rich uncle Walter Beilby died on 6 August 1843 and when his will was probated in October Jane found that he had left her £300. [3]

At Christ Church back in Sculcoates on 6 March 1844 she married Edward Anderson, widower and gentleman farmer of Kilham, son of Richard Anderson and his wife, Mary Eggleston. [4] [5] Christ Church in Worship Street had been built the year of Jane's birth, was badly damaged by bombing in 1941 and was demolished in 1962. [6]

Wear Cottage
There were already two children in Edward's household at Wear Cottage, in the Mount Pleasant area of Kilham at the end of East Street, Richard aged 5 and Mary 4. [7]
Jane (Beilby) Anderson died from complications arising from the birth of Ellen Anderson.
During the sixteen years of her marriage Jane bore her husband 12 children before dying of exhaustion following a uterine haemorrhage on 18 June 1860 aged 38. [8]

Jane was buried at All Saints on the 20th. [9]

"In memory of Edward Anderson who died the 12th April 1870 aged 52 years. Also Jane second wife of the above who died the 18th June 1860 aged 38 years.
