He held the office of Sheriff of Wiltshire from 1798 to 1799. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Wiltshire between 1819 and 1832. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Wiltshire South between 1832 and 1852. He lived at Pyt House, Wiltshire, England.
