Richard Berndt (1892 - 1966)

I did not personally hear this memory but my cousins were at the hospital when he died. They all said he sat up in the hospital bed smiled stretched out his arms and said

"A wee and away we go" he did love Jackie Gleason who use to say that on his show.

He loved to play the drums and sang to me all the time. When I was little he use to stay at our home every weekend he would love to sit outside while my sister and I played on our swing set. He use to love the ships going down the Delaware River and when my sister and I would ask him if he was watching us on the swing set he use to say "I have eyes in the back of my head"

I remember he would bring us cheese cake and hershey kisses. He would give us the Hershey kisses before dinner and then tell my Mother (his daughter) that he didn't give us treats before dinner :) He use to play fish and old maid with us and always let us win at cards. We loved having him come stay with us every weekend. I still miss him.
