Hi!

Congratulations, you've been a WikiTree member for a month! We're glad you're here. A few tips to help you dive in even deeper:

Check out Beyond the Basics of WikiTree for a guide on some of our more advanced features such as Projects, Categories, and Merging.

We're very active on our social sites and we have an excellent blog where you'll find our monthly newsletter as well as tips, interviews with our members and guest posts from others in the genealogy community.

As always, I'm here to help if you have any questions!

Guy ~ WikiTree Mentor

Hi, Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, here are a few more features you may find useful

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you will run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations. If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Mimi, the Relationship to Me feature will show the whole line. So for example you can click on my name, go to my profile, click on the profile ID and then Relationship to Me and it will show what we are, but also the whole line back to James George. Be patient though because sometimes when you click on it , it looks like it did not do anything, but if you be patient it will eventually show you the results. Warren

Dear Mimi, I know the frustrations. It took me years of wasted time to find my George connection all because the Corinth, VT town clerk recorded Mary George as Mrs. Mary George when she married John Ayer. I wasted years looking for a prior marriage, till someone told me it might have meant she was pregnant at the time of marriage and sure enough, I checked the birth of first child and she was definitely pregnant at time of marriage. Once I started looking for a Mary with a maiden name of George (and she conveniently named her first children after her parents) things started to take off. By the way, if you have not discovered it yet, when you go to a profile and you want to know how related just click on profile ID at top (like Popkin-45) and click on "Relationship to Me" from popdown.

Dear Mimi, Thanks for the Thank you. When that happens I always check to see if I have discovered a "cousin" and sure enough we are 10th cousins thru my father's side to James George, and 15th cousins thru my mother's side thru Robert Legh. Looks like you are new to WikiTree, so Welcome. Warren

Hi Mimi,

If you look in the top right corner, under the tab for "Help" there is a Help Index under the M's you'll find a whole section about merging that will answer your question far better than I could typing it out here.

If you're still unsure, message me back and I'll try to address your questions specifically. Thank You for caring!

Hi!

How are you? I'm Shirley, a WikiTree Mentor. Hope you're enjoying our site.

How To Use WikiTree is a good starting point, and the Help Index is an important place to find out how to do most tasks.

If you have pre-1700's ancestors to add please read our Pre-1700 profiles info. Do you have Royal Ancestors? Rather than create duplicate profiles for them, please contact the EuroAristo Project to discuss connecting your family line to their profiles.

And I'm here to help too, just ask!

Hello,

Thank you for signing the Honor code. Collaboration, accurate information and good sources are the basis for a great WikiTree.

Guy - Wikitree Ranger / Leader

Hi Mimi,

When you get settled in , make sure to check out our 1776 Project so your American Revolution ancestors can be included there. We also have projects for the War if 1812 and other great projects.

Amy

Thank you for volunteering!

Now that you are now a member of WikiTree, you are helping to build one Collaborative Global Family Tree.

This means only one profile per person. It's important that no duplicates are created and profiles are properly sourced

If you have pre-1700's ancestors to add please read our Pre-1700 profiles info.

For a list of Member benefits, see Community Members page.

We also have Mentors who will be glad to answer questions.
