Biography

Elizabeth , daughter of Charles Binns, married John Jones , July 22,1758,Sussex County, Virginia.[1]

Research Notes

Lyon Gardiner Tyler's Encyclopedia of Virginia Biography -

"Jones, John, son of Peter Jones, founder of Petersburg, was a member of the county court of Brunswick, and in 1772 a member of the house of burgesses. In 1788 he represented Brunswick in the state convention. In after years he was in the state senate and was president of that body. He married Elizabeth Binns, daughter of Charles Binns, in July, 1758."[2]

Peter Jones, founder of Petersburg is a few generations removed. Third of the name, Peter Jones (born 1691) names a son John in his 1753 will (John not yet 21), but that John's 1815/1819 will (Amelia County) names wife Martha. (See John Jones's profile.) The will of his brother Peter (1804, Amelia County) has two Anderson Witnesses: Ralph C. Anderson, William Anderson.

DAR records include a John Jones of Brunswick County (1735-1793), Patriot Ancestor #A062355, married to Elizabeth Binns and with a son John Jones who married Lucy Binns Cargill (son John was also a Patriot Ancestor, #A062363). Most of the children attached to this profile appear in the father's DAR record.

Kathryn Gearhart's "Early Jones Families of Virginia" -

"In 1747 Elizabeth Jones, executrix of Matthew Jones, deceased sold 200 acres on the South side of Cattail Creek, in Brunswick County to Thomas Binns of Surry County.
"In 1747 Scervant Jones of Warwick issued a bond to Thomas Binns of Surry County that he would not be interfered with by any heirs in regards to 200 acres of land in Brunswick County, which had been ordered sold by Matthew Jones, deceased, in his will. The witnesses were Albridgton Jones, Harwood Jones, and Thomas Brantley."

Research Notes from the profile of Tignal Jones (as of 10 March 2021) -

"Tignal" name apparently from Mary Tignell. Following from Kathryn Gearhart's research, Early Virginia Jones Families:

"Mathew Jones and Mary Tignel were the parents of Francis Albridgton [Jones]... and Matthew Jones who married Martha Harwood.... Mathew [the father] lived in York County where his will was proved in 1762.... Mary Jones was the executrix. In the records of Warwick is the notation that Harwood Jones produced an account against Tignall Jones, orphan of Matthew Jones."
Kathryn lists a son Tignal for both Francis and and Matthew. She says the son of Matthew (grandson of Mary Tignel) named Tignal married Martha Anderson and removed to Mecklenburg County. I couldn't figure out which dates applied to which Tignal Jones (best guess is that the Tignal who married Anderson was the brother named in the 1782/4 Northampton County [North Carolina] will of Francis Jones).
Martha Anderson is described by Kathryn as "daughter of Thomas Anderson and his wife the daughter of James Clark and Henrietta Maria Hardeman, the granddaughter of John Taylor who owned Flowerdieu Hundred." In WikiTree, it does not appear that James Clark or his wife has a profile, although it seems John Hardeman must have been his wife's father - John's profile is attached to parents John and his wife Henrietta Maria (Taylor) Hardeman (1686-abt.1738), daughter of John Taylor and Henrietta Maria Hill. John Taylor is described as "Captain John Taylor Jr of Flowerdew Hundred and County Clerk at Charles City County for the House of Burgesses (ca. 1663-1709)" on the profile for Richard Taylor (attached as his father as of 10 March 2021).
Seems so: The entry in Lyon Gardiner Tyler's Encyclopedia of Virginia Biography has
"Taylor, John, resided in that part of Charles city county afterwards known as Prince George; burgess for Charles City county in 1696-1697, 1698, 1699, 1700-1702; clerk of the county in 1699, and doubtless other years; captain of the militia; died in 1707. he left two daughters — Sarah, who married John Hardiman, and Henrietta Maria, who married his brother, Francis Hardiman, both of Charles City county."[3]
Additional research apparently needed since Tyler doesn't agree with the relationships WikiTree currently has (note that Tyler is a great resource but should not be taken as gospel).

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:

Hi William.

Elizabeth Binns isn't the mother of your Chapman Children. She married Col. John Jones in Sussex County, Virginia on the 22nd of July 1758. Charles Champion was born before Elizabeth was born, and Sapphira was born when Elizabeth was 7. Elizabeth and John spent their whole lives in Virginia, not in North Carolina. I plan to disconnect the Chapman children from Elizabeth and attach her husband Col. John Jones if that is all right with you. Rosemary
