Biography

John was baptized on October 8, 1806 and passed away October 29, 1870.

Sarah Ann Kent and John Blakeney apparently separated shortly before his death as she is found living with her daughter and son-in-law in the 1870 census. There is no known reason for this, but his death must have been suspicious in that an autopsy was performed. A portion of the autopsy report reads, "Verdict of the Jurors is that he came to his death by Phthisis Pulmonalis." The handwriting is very difficult to read but appears to have something to do with his lungs. The certificate goes on to state that he was a shoemaker, that he was a resident of New York City for 25 years, that his father's and mother's birthplace was New Jersey, and that he died at 45 Eighth Avenue. It is certified that he died on the 29th day of Oct 1870. There is additional info on the autopsy report, but it is too difficult to interpret. [1]

There was a John Blakeney listed in the New York City Directory for 1869. His occupation was "clerk" and his home was at 497 Canal.
